Emily Wilton is an Air Quality Scientist with over 15 years experience in air quality monitoring and management. Emily has a special interest in particulate pollution, including monitoring, source apportionment, health impacts, visibility and air quality management.

Qualifications include a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Psychology, a Masters of Applied Science in Air Quality and a PhD. Emily’s masters thesis evaluated management measures for reducing particulate pollution in Christchurch and her PhD thesis identified the causes of daytime brown haze in Christchurch.

  • Project leader for air quality monitoring in the Canterbury region.
    Responsible for annual air quality monitoring budget of around $370,000
  • Presentation of expert evidence at Coal Ban and Air Plan Hearings
  • Designing, implementing, and managing air quality investigation
    programmes in Christchurch, Kaiapoi, Rangiora, Ashburton and Timaru
  • Preparing emission inventories for Christchurch, Ashburton, Waimate, Kaiapoi and Rangiora
  • Designing, implementing and managing investigations into causes of visibility degradation in Christchurch
  • Participating in the Christchurch Air Plan Team formed by the Regional Council to address Christchurch's air pollution issues.
  • Supervising of two science staff members, whose duties exclusively relate to air quality investigations and monitoring, including one Air Quality Officer and one Air Quality Instrumentation Officer.
